Grant Writing

In the increasingly competitive market for grant funding, an experienced grant writer can give your proposal the edge it needs to be successful. Rahima has written 18 funded grants, including five supported by the federal Corporation for National and Community Service, for a total of over $2,300,000. Rahima will help you conceptualize an innovative program that will stand out from others, based on a sound understanding of the field, with strong support from key stakeholders and a purposeful plan for evaluation.

It is important to develop a grant idea that is unique in the field, a new idea that not only meets the needs of those involved but also offers something special to the world of service-learning.  Communicating the idea to others is another important skill in effective grant writing.  Third, it is vital to establish a strong team of local partners who are ready to do the work involved and who have a track record for gettings things done.  Rahima can assist you in making sure that your grant has these essential features in order to make your proposal stand above the rest.

Evaluation

Do you need an outside evaluator for your grant or service-learning program? Rahima has worked with colleges and universities to provide a fresh perspective on their program’s past accomplishments and future directions. Previous clients include the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Residence Academic Program and Providence College’s teacher education program.

Rahima has also conducted program evaluation on four Corporation for National and Community Service grants at The University of Iowa. She can assist you in designing a comprehensive evaluation plan as well as in developing surveys, conducting focus groups, or drawing up interview protocols. Evaluation is a critical aspect of a high quality program and Rahima’s expertise will help your program meet its goals.

Creating a strong evaluation involves looking broadly at the program and its many goals and constituents and then narrowing down the many possibilities to focus on what types of information will be useful and for what purposes.

While program directors can sometimes design an effective evaluation protocol, the potential bias for seeing success where one wants to see it is a drawback.  Much better to hire an outside evaluator who can take a more objective stance toward the data collected.  Based on her evaluation experience, Rahima can provide this perspective and create a high quality evaluation with integrity and sound procedures for gathering the information you want and care about.
